NSP4 behaves like an enterotoxin causing an excretory diarrhoea. The product is a viroporin which causes pores to form increasing intracellular calcium which affects chloride amongst other things - it has lots of effects on the host cell. Rotavirus ultimately leaves the cell by cell lysis
